New iRobot Roomba 500 Series

That’s right! The new 500 series Roomba from iRobot has dramatically improved vacuum power. I’ll be honest; I did a lot of reading and considered a lot of reviews before buying my first Roomba 5250. I didn’t need to read another thing before I bought my second. Like most, if not all iRobot Roomba owners, I love them, and yes, I even call it “him”.

But “he” might need to go soon, cause there’s a new sheriff in town and he’s got a 34% larger filtration system and a 33% bigger dust bin.

The new iRobot Roomba 500 series features an improved vacuum suction, revised brush design, increased cleaning time, better navigation programming and new scheduling system.

There’s a list of new features and accessories that will make it impossible not to want one. Here’s why:

The iRobot Roomba Virtual Walls have been replaced with Virtual Lighthouses that allow the new Roombas to finish vacuuming one room before being released into the next area to complete his mission.

iRobot has enhanced the bumpers to soften the blow on your furniture and now he can talk! The new voice commands alert you when Roomba needs help or repairs. When Roomba finds himself driving over your tassels or power cords, the new anti-tangle technology kicks in and stops the vacuuming action until Roomba backs out of trouble.

Just like a BMW, there are 3 model steps in the series, Roomba 530, Roomba 560 and the impressive Roomba 570. The higher the number, the better it gets obviously. The top model includes the Lighthouse technology, onboard scheduling and some replacement brush parts.

I have been told by Salton, Australia’s iRobot distributor, that only the new iRobot Roomba 530 series will be sold here from November. Expect the pricing to be around the $500 mark, but with the way the AU dollar is crushing the greenback, I am thinking about bringing in one of those 570 bad boys, they even come in black.

Nov 4 Update: The iRobot Roomba 530 is now in stock in Australia. If you want to buy one of the new Roomba 500 series, the retail price is $499. Would you like to place an order? DoneSold is organising an Australian group buy to get a discount!
